St Peter's N.S Dromiskin

An excellent partnership is in place between Dromiskin Tidy Towns and St Peter’s NS, in the delivery of the Tidy Towns and Green Schools Programmes which has resulted in a number of excellent joint initiatives and projects being undertaken in the community. The school was one of the first in Ireland to be awarded the Green Flag and is the proud holder of ten Green Flags and currently one of a small number of schools, nationally, participating in a pilot Climate Ambassador Green Flag module. The school has also won numerous awards in Louth County Council’s Primary School Environment Competition being named School of the Year on several occasions as well as coming top in Louth Tidy Towns Together’s Eco Tribes initiative numerous times. The school is honoured to be one of only 25 schools in Ireland chosen to participate in a time capsule poster campaign to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Green Schools in Ireland with the poster highlighting the hopes and dreams of the pupils for the next 25 years of the programme.

The school grounds are presented and maintained jointly by Tidy Towns volunteers and the staff, pupils and parents of the school with the Dreamtime Garden, Incredible Edible Garden, Outdoor Classroom, 1916 commemorative sculpture and linear planting schemes being key features in the overall presentation. The pupils also assist with regular Sustainability Surveys in the wider community, engage in planting schemes including the recent tree planting in Ginnety’s Pond and this ongoing collaboration assists in ensuring that our community is one that supports sustainability and is buzzing with biodiversity.
